Supra stars: David and Duran do the double at Barcelona

+ Matmut Évolution drivers complete a clean sweep of wins, but only just
+ Mogica brothers dominate Pro-Am, but Safronov and Vaintrub take the title
+ Blickle and Kronberg sign off in style with Am win
+ Result: Race 2, Barcelona

Hadrien David and Jan Duran completed a dream weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, taking advantage of a penalty for the rival Elite Motorsport McLaren to secure a double victory.

The #87 Toyota ran at the front throughout and survived a scare at the start before vaulting into the lead when the #78 Artura shared by McKenzy Cresswell and Josh Rattican was handed a time penalty. While that delayed the McLaren, it didn’t end the drama, as Rattican chased back to second and hounded the Toyota across the line.

It proved a day of doubles all round, with Hugo and Thibaut Mogica taking a second Pro-Am win in their CMR Ginetta, and newly crowned Am champions Daniel Blickle and Max Kronberg in full control of the Am contest. While they didn’t’ cap their year with another win, Aleksandr Vaintrub and Stanislav Safronov claimed the Pro-Am title for Mirage Racing.

SILVER: DURAN SOAKS UP THE PRESSURE

It While David and Duran’s second win looks simple on paper, the reality was far from it thanks to a shaky start and intense pressure over the final stint from the Elite McLaren.

Cresswell started the #78 Artura on pole with David alongside and managed to get a good start, a bit too good in fact as the car was later hit with a 10-second penalty for a jump start. David followed Cresswell in, but a snap of oversteer as he rounded the Turn 2 kerb forced a brush with Charlie Hart’s RAFA Racing McLaren, sending it into the gravel. That, combined with a pinch in the pack spitting Cindy Gudet’s Toyota hard into the barriers, brought out the red flags to allow for recovery and repairs.

When racing resumed, Cresswell led from David, the twin Team Speedcar Audis of Robert Consani and Paul Petit, and the Willi Motorsport R8 in the hands of Sergiu Nicolae. With the extra 10 second hanging over him, Cresswell needed to push on to limit the damage and pulled a solid gap over David before making his stop to hand to Rattican late in the pit window. However, it would not be enough to prevent the Toyota blasting into the lead with Duran at the wheel once the stops had been completed.

Nicolae’s great pace helped the Willi Motorsport car up to third by the time he stopped for Tudor Tudurachi, and that became second once Rattican had rejoined after serving the penalty. But Elite wasn’t done yet, and Rattican quickly passed the Audi before taking chunks of time out of Duran up front. A four-second gap became just a few tenths starting the final lap, with Duran holding on by 0.3s at the flag to score the crew’s third win in in the last four races and seal the championship runner-up spot.

An early pitstop again paid off for Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport BMW drivers Gabriele Piana and Berkay Besler, with Besler grabbing the final podium place from Tudurachi late on, while Gregory Guilvert and Benjamin Lariche finished Team Speedcar’s season off in fifth and sixth.

PRO-AM: DOUBLE GLORY FOR GINETTA AND THE MOGICAS

After celebrating their breakthrough class win on Saturday, there was no stopping Thibaut and Hugo Mogica from making it a double on Sunday. The pair led from lights to flag, with Thibaut keeping Branden Oxley in the #16 NM Racing Team Mercedes-AMG at arm’s length, before Hugo took over and resisted the car’s other driver, Marc de Fulgencio, to the flag.

The day may have belonged to the Mogicas, but the season glory went the way of Aleksandr Vaintrub and Stanislav Safronov, who finished third in their Mirage Racing Aston Martin but were essentially handed the class crown when their only rivals hit trouble at the start. Only the #32 W&S Motorsport Porsche of Joachim Bölting and Hendrik Still could have denied them but Bölting was caught in the chaos at the start and retired, leaving Vaintrub and Safronov unopposed in the points.

AM: SEVENTH HEAVEN FOR THE NEW CHAMPIONS

Daniel Blickle and Max Kronberg never really looked under threat as they scorched to a seventh win of the season, capping their glorious season in style. Blickle started on pole and never looked back as he pulled clear before Kronberg brought the car home in the second half.

Ali and Reema Juffali beat some early damage to fight through to second place in the #77 Elite Motorsport McLaren, with Reema passing the #88 NM Racing Team Mercedes-AMG shared by Keith Gatehouse and Igor Sorokin late on to snatch the result. Third place still marked a fourth podium appearance of the season for Gatehouse and Sorokin.

The GT4 European Series powered by RAFA Racing Club will return in 2026, with the opening round scheduled for Circuit Paul Ricard in April.
