Leading German team W&S Motorsport has announced its plans to make the switch to the new Porsche 911 GT4 R for next season’s GT4 European Series.
Already a frontrunner and multiple class winner with the current 718 Cayman RS CS GT4, the Ofterdingen-based team will now update to the new 911-based GT4 challenger for next season and beyond.
W&S has extensive experience of operating racing 911s already. From 2022-2024 the team has run the 992-generation 911 GT3 Cup cars in the Nürburgring Endurance Series and the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
The new 911 GT4 R is based on the road-legal 992.2 911 GT3 and uses key body structures from the 911 Cup car. The 4-litre six-cylinder engine is capable of producing up to 520bhp and is coupled to a six-speed sequential gearbox.
W&S currently operates three 718 Cayman GT4s in GT4 Europe and has racked up a string of successes. The team won the 2024 Pro-Am title and is the reigning Am class champion also with Max Kronberg and Daniel Blickle. The pair are also leading the class standings this year as W&S hunts a third-straight championship.
Team head Daniel Schellhaas said: “2027 marks a major turning point for us, but one for which we are extremely well prepared. From now on, everything will come from the 911 parts bin – and we know this platform intimately from the NLS and 24 Hours. The Cayman has brought us countless titles, and now we have an absolutely competitive new car based on GT3 technology. This makes the transition significantly easier for young drivers, as they will be training on the right platform from the very beginning. We are incredibly excited to write the next success story with our partners and drivers.”
W&S Motorsport co-founder Patrick Wagner added: “We are very pleased that we will be able to start next year with new cars. We will quickly be competitive and are already planning intensively for the 2027 season. This brings to an end a successful era with the 718 Cayman GT4. With the new 911 platform the GT4 R, we will be able to offer a wide range of options for getting started in motorsport in the future.”
