The GT4 European Series will make its long-awaited return to Monza next weekend (May 29-31) with a boosted 44-car field ready for the high-speed challenge.

GT4 Europe last visited the historic Italian circuit two years ago in 2024, and the Temple of Speed will play host to a tantalising event, with the twin hour-long GT4 races running alongside a near 60-strong GT World Endurance Cup field, plus a revitalised GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli entry. Add in further support races from the McLaren Trophy Europe and over 150 GT cars will be in action across what promises to be an event to remember.

SLIPSTREAMING ACTION GUARANTEED

As the fastest circuit on the European calendar, GT4 racing at Monza rarely fails to produce a spectacle. Being lighter on aerodynamics than their GT3 counterparts, GT4 cars regularly produce slipstreaming action as packs of cars fight for position along Monza’s flat-out straights.

With average lap speeds regularly topping 180kph (110mph+) a lap of Monza stands as the quickest challenge GT4 Europe drivers will face this year. Getting a strong tow on your rivals is crucial to creating dramatic overtaking opportunities into technical sections such as the Variante Della Roggia and Ascari chicane, which act as spectator-pleasing pinch points that demand perfect braking and bravery to get right. The 44-car field battling for position into the famous first turn, the Variante del Rettifilo, is also always a sight not to be missed.

PARTY IN THE PARK

GT World events at Monza regularly draw a heathy crowd, and this year should be no exception, with a range of fan activities planned across the weekend.

Being a historic parkland circuit, Monza’s Fan Zone boasts a special atmosphere and is held within one of the circuit’s paddock plaza areas, allowing fans to follow the action on the big screen while enjoying multiple food and drink offerings and the GT World DJ. Two GT3 autograph sessions are planned – one each on Saturday and Sunday – to allow spectators to get up close with the top GT World drivers. GT4 Europe drivers will have their own signing session fresh from the Race 1 podium on Saturday, plus there will be the ever-popular pit walk on Saturday evening.

Star display cars include the only road-going example of the 1998 Nissan R390 CK Group C car in existence thanks to owner and former racer Erik Comas and the Kimera EVO37, a modern reimagining of the classic Lancia 037 Group B rally car.

RETURN TO THE TEMPLE OF SPEEDCAR?

Reigning champions Robert Consani and Benjamin Lariche have proven almost unbeatable at Monza over recent visits, with the Team Speedcar Audi pair winning each of the last three GT4 Europe races held there, all of them from pole.

They will need to return to that sort of form this time around after a tough start to their title defence at Circuit Paul Ricard last month, which yielded just four points from the opening two races – their lowest total after an opening weekend since 2022.

Their troubles opened the door for a pair of new entries to shine, with both SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm (Mercedes-AMG) and CRT-Sport (Toyota GR) sharing the wins in France. The consistency of GT4 Germany graduates Enrico Förderer and Cedric Fuchs gives them the early points lead, backing up their breakthrough victory in Race 1 with a fourth place in the second. They hold a six-point advantage over the familiar NM Racing Team Mercedes-AMG of Alexandre Papadopulos and Lluc Ibañez. Racing Spirit of Léman Aston Martin pair Pedro Garcia and Clement Seyler sit third after a tremendous on-track battle helped them to a podium last time out, while the other breakthrough winners, Lucas Cartelle and Hudson Schwartz, are fourth in their CRT GR Supra.

Pro-Am features 18 entries. Joakim Walde and Victor Bouveng ended their five-year, 25-race wait for a class victory at Circuit Paul Ricard, helping the Schubert Motorsport BMW drivers top the standings. Daniel Drexel and Christopher Salkeld are second in their Razoon – More than Racing BMW ahead of last year’s class title contenders Joachim Bölting and Hendrik Still in the lead W&S Motorsport Porsche. With Am class leaders Julien Briché and Nicco Ferrarin moving into Pro-Am, the way is clear for a three-way fight between Daniel Blickle and returning 2025 champion Max Kronberg (W&S Porsche), Mikael and Christoffer Brunnhagen (GR Racing Sweden Supra) and Julien Ripert (Team Speedcar Audi).

The grid will be boosted by several new entries, including Porsches from both Ebimotors (Riccardo Pera/Paolo Gnemmi) and SRS Team Sorg Rennsport (Calvin de Groot/Ross Poole), an extra Ginetta from CMR (Jack Mitchell/Georgi Dimitrov) and a second Mercedes-AMG from SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm (Joel Mesch/Julien Apotheloz).
