Academy brings new-generation Mustangs to the 2024 grid

Academy Motorsport will bring the new-generation Ford Mustang to the GT4 European Series Powered by RAFA Racing Club this year, with Will Moore and Matt Nicoll-Jones the first crew confirmed.

The British team will field a multi-car entry in this year’s championship, with anywhere up to three new-for-2024 S650 Mustang GT4s running in Academy’s distinctive colours.

Moore and Nicoll-Jones are the first two drivers confirmed for the project, with the pair stepping up to the GT4 European Series having been race-winners in the British GT Championship across recent seasons.

Moore has raced regularly with Academy over the last decade, and has been part of its Mustang crew since 2020. In 2021 he celebrated two British GT4 wins on his way to second in the championship. Moore and Academy team boss Nicoll-Jones teamed-up last season, scoring one race win on their way to a top-six in the British GT4 Silver class last year.

Academy also returns to the European stage for the first time since 2019. The team has pioneered the Mustang’s European race programme alongside the car’s developer, global constructor Multimatic Motorsports, since 2020.

Last year Academy enjoyed a superb 2023 campaign, running British driver Matt Cowley and American Erik Evans to the overall British GT4 title in what was the old Mustang GT4’s farewell campaign. The team will now switch to running the new car, which has already tasted success at Daytona earlier this year.

Nicoll-Jones says: “We’re really excited to be joining the GT4 European Series Powered by RAFA Racing Club for this year. We’ve had some fantastic years racing with the Mustang in the UK, but we’ve missed being a part of the European scene. We are looking to build upon our recent success and hot the ground running with the new car this year.”

Academy is close to confirming the drivers for its second Mustang, and is inviting interested drivers to contact the team about potentially adding a third car to the grid.
