SRT has announced it will field Mercedes-AMG GT4s in both the Silver Cup and Am Cup categories this season, with Italian Luca Bosco and American Alexandre Papadopulos sharing the Silver entry, and Belgians Jean-Luc Behets and Johan Vannerum running in the Am class.
SRT, which is run by father-and-son Patrick and Niels Selleslagh, has been a regular competitor in the GT4 European Series and last season celebrated third place in both the Pro-Am Drivers’ and Teams’ championships.
Bosco (17) starred on his maiden season of GT4 competition last term after graduating from a successful international karting career. He scored five podium finishes on his way to third in the Pro-Am championship in 2021.
Papadopulos (22) made his GT4 European Series debut on a one-off appearance with SRT at Barcelona last year. He brings with him considerable experience of racing both TCR and GT machinery in the American IMSA Challenge series.
Luca Bosco said: “2021 was an incredible year for me. After many years of karting, the switch to the Mercedes-AMG GT4 was a huge challenge. I loved learning how to handle this car and gained experience every race. I got great support from the whole team, and big thanks to Patrick Selleslagh, who believed in me and gave me this opportunity. At the start of the 2021 season, I could never have imagined that I could finish the season with third place in Pro-Am. This winter I worked hard to be in the perfect shape physically and mentally for the start of this season.”
Alexandre Papadopulos said: “SRT have been phenomenal to work with, their level of professionalism is unparalleled, and they are one of the main reasons I decided to race in Europe this season. I had the chance to meet Luca last year and he is fast. I think as a driver pairing we will be very competitive. My ambitions for 2022 are to race to the best of my ability and to constantly improve myself and the whole team. It’s a new challenge to race a full season in Europe, so I’m looking forward to giving it my all.”
For the Am Class entry, Behets returns to the GT4 European Series for the first time since 2020 to reunite with long-term team-mate Vannerum. The pair finished third in the Am ranks during 2019 with SRT, scoring an impressive five race wins and six podium finishes at the wheel of their Mercedes-AMG.
SRT head Patrick Selleslagh added: “We will continue our momentum after finishing on the podium in the GT4 European Series Teams’ championship last year, and we are naturally aiming for a place near the top once again. We’re going to run two cars, maybe even three, but there’s no definite answer on that front yet. This will be an important season for our team because I am gradually passing the torch to my son, Niels, now that I have reached the age of 65. Niels has been the driving force of the team for years and I am proud of the work we have achieved together. SRT has been racing at an international level for almost 20 years, and that is something special.”
