Final testing on a wet Monza

20 April 2023

On the eve of the opening weekend of the 2023 GT4 European Series all competitors could participate in a final three-hour official test session on the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza. Although the iconic track was wet on Thursday morning, most teams were able to gather important information.

Lap times are not the most important aspect of an official test session, but after three hours it was the #30 W&S Motorsport Porsche of the German pairing Hendrik Still and Max Kronberg that had set the fastest time, in 2’01.105. In comparison to the pole position of 2021, the last time the Series visited Monza, that is about five seconds slower.

The #30 Porsche headed two Silver cars, the #46 Fullmotorsport Audi and the #12 Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport BMW, both some two tenths of a second slower than the leading Porsche. The fastest of the AM-cars was the #10 AVR-Avvatar Porsche, which ended in seventh overall. With the #6 Mirage Racing Aston Martin in fourth and the #78 Elite Motorsport McLaren in tenth, five manufacturers had at least one car in the top 10.

With the official testing over, teams now prepare for the race weekend. Both free practice sessions will be held on Friday (10.50 and 14.20 CEST), with Qualifying starting at 11.10 on Saturday morning. Race 1 will start at 16.50 on Saturday afternoon, Race 2 at noon on Sunday.
