W&S Motorsport and Nova Racing join forces in the GT4 European Series

W&S Motorsport and Nova Racing have entered into a partnership for the GT4 European Series Powered by RAFA Racing Club to bring an extra Porsche to the grid for the races at Spa-Francorchamps, Hockenheim and Monza.

The Swedish Nova Racing team will field a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport as a guest entry, and the car will be supported technically by GT4 Europe frontrunner W&S. The crew of Patrick Wagner and Daniel Schellhaas will provide Nova Racing with experienced technical and team management personnel and supervise the operation of the racing car.

After a two-year break, Nova Racing will return to the championship, with drivers Edvin Hellsten and Daniel Nilsson racing the #27 Porsche in the Pro-Am class.

Edvin Hellsten started out in karting at the age of seven and switched to touring car racing in 2014. In 2019, the 27-year-old competed with Nova Racing in the Porsche Cup Scandinavia, where he finished runner-up twice and won several races.

Entrepreneur Daniel Nilsson took part in selected GT4 Scandinavia events in 2021 and made guest appearances in the GT4 European Series last year. The 53-year-old clinched a podium finish in the Scandinavian classification at Spa and is also aiming for good results in 2024.

Daniel Nilsson says: “I am really looking forward to racing again, and with a stronger, much more experienced team. I believe that the combination of W&S Motorsport's European racing expertise and my training during a slightly longer off-season will make a difference in terms of overall speed. The Spa-Francorchamps circuit places high demands on the driver. For me, it's all about maintaining the pace over the entire lap, even when there's a lot of traffic. My goal for this season is to further improve my lap times and to drive with more foresight in the races. I want to have fun with my opponents in the Pro-Am class.”

Edvin Hellsten says: “It is a new challenge for me to drive in the GT4 class. It will be my first time driving on the legendary Spa circuit and it will be very exciting. The track is long and technically demanding, but I hope that I will quickly find my feet. It will be a lot of fun to share the car with Daniel. He has a competitive mentality and I believe that we will both develop our speed together over the course of the season. My goal for this year is to gain as much experience as possible. In terms of lap times, we want to try and get onto the Pro-Am podium as quickly as possible.”

Axel Hellsten, Team Manager Nova Racing, says: “I am very excited and happy to start the cooperation together with W&S Motorsport for this season in the GT4 European Series. Daniel Schellhaas and his team have shown great interest to make our entry in the championship the best possible. Looking ahead for this year and even beyond I believe that we can achieve good results as there is no doubt that W&S Motorsport has got tremendous knowledge in developing both quick cars and drivers. Nova Racing will join forces bringing engineers and mechanics to the race weekends, always with the ambition to perform on the highest level.”

Daniel Schellhaas, Team Principal W&S Motorsport, adds: “We are delighted to be working with Nova Racing. We have a lot of experience in GT4 and especially with the Porsche Cayman. This is our third season in the GT4 European Series and our staff know the racing series very well. We have also celebrated many successes in recent years, such as the 2022 European Championship title in the amateur class. We want to support Axel and his team as much as we can so that they can achieve good results quickly.”
