Aston Martin has taken the wraps off its new-for-2024 Vantage GT4, which will be available to join the grid this season.
The new car is the third major iteration of Aston’s Vantage GT4 since the first model was launch back in 2009, and across that time the car has gone on to become a favourite for both GT4 competitors and fans the world over.
This new-generation version shares the same 4-litre twin-turbo AMG-sourced V8 engine as used in the new road car, but features a raft of chassis, aerodynamic and efficiency changes aimed at increasing performance over the old model. The machine is designed, engineered built by Aston Martin Racing (Prodrive) alongside its GT3 sibling, which was revealed recently.
While the Vantage GT4 shares 80% of the structural and mechanical architecture of the road car, the GT4 features some clever tech for the track. Running a Bosch Motorsport ECU with bespoke software developed by AMR. The software allows the use of the production eight-speed gearbox, but converts it to a race-spec six-speed sequential by locking out the top two gears. This ensures peak performance of the engine management, fuel system and turbo pressures.
With the chassis, CFD testing has been used to limit drag and the bodywork features multiple uses of sustainable natural flax fibre composite, including the all-new bonnet design which incorporates additional cooling. There’s also an all-new front splitter and rear wing, which act together to produce more downforce and less drag than the old car. The new car also benefits from new two-way adjustable KW dampers designed to inspire an increased feeling of precision and control through improved driving dynamics.
The new-generation Vantage GT4 made its racing debut at Daytona at the start of the year and production is now well underway, with a number of the early cars already in the hands of customer teams. AMR states that it has already received more than 40 orders for the first year.
Aston Martin Head of Endurance, Adam Carter, says: “The new Vantage GT4 is very much an evolution of the previous car. Closer synergies between Aston Martin’s road and race car programmes have enabled AMR to capitalise upon improvements made to the new Vantage road car for increased speed and efficiency, while retaining the core qualities that made the outgoing GT4 so popular with teams and drivers.”
Chief Brand and Commercial Officer, Aston Martin Lagonda, Marco Mattiacci said: “The new Vantage GT4 is a born winner. Benefitting from the significant performance improvements seen in the sensational new Vantage road car, and developed in parallel with the Vantage GT3, the Vantage GT4 is a demonstration of the increasing synergies between our road and race car programmes; class-leading power and technology on the road translating into race-winning pace on the track.
“The introduction of the new Vantage GT4 also allows us to build an even deeper connection to Aston Martin’s partner teams. We currently have more than 40 partners in active competition across the broad spectrum of global GT racing, many of whom are running multi-car, multi-class programmes. This level of engagement underlines our commitment to all levels of motorsport competition as well as building closer ties with our wider community of fans and followers, many of whom fell in love with the brand through our successes in sportscar racing and at Le Mans.”
